Alec Brooks Joins AC Propulsion, Inc.

March 1, 1999
San Dimas, CA

AC Propulsion, a supplier of electric vehicle drive systems, has hired Alec Brooks, (b. 10/18/54), as Vice President, tzero Program. Mr. Brooks will direct development of AC Propulsion's tzero sports car and other technology commercialization efforts.

Brooks joins AC Propulsion after 17 years at Aerovironment of Monrovia, CA, where he most recently served as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. At Aerovironment, Brooks led development of the ground-breaking General Motors Impact electric vehicle now produced by GM as the EV1.

GM's announcement in 1990 that it would put the Impact into production has led to widespread OEM development of EVs worldwide. Since the Impact, Brooks has played an active role in electric transportation commercialization projects ranging from electric bicycles to high-power battery charging systems.

Brooks' decision to join AC Propulsion came in part from the potential he saw for the tzero, a high-performance two-seat sports car, to break through the market's indifference to electric vehicles. "At some point," Brooks observed, "the EV business has to become market-driven, not mandate-driven. With the tzero, AC Propulsion has developed an electric vehicle that will reach out and grab a piece of the market."
